Unit Conversion Dialog

In the Editor toolbar, the unit of the current input value can be specified at input. In many cases the entire system of units including the default input units has to be changed.

FEFLOW provides three predefined unit sets and the possibility to apply a user-defined set. In addition to the units provided by FEFLOW also user-defined units can be created.

The unit sets are:

  • FEFLOW default
  • SI - international system of units
  • Imperial system of units

By switching to one of these unit sets, all default input units for are set according to the unit set. The default unit for each different category can be seen and changed by selecting this category from the drop-down menu. The unit changes are not only applied to the current model, but as a default setting for the FEFLOW user interface.

The categories only reflect physical categories at the moment. Historically, FEFLOW uses different units for the same category, e.g., different units for velocity representing conductivity and in/outflow on top/bottom. Thus changing the default unit for a category does NOT necessarily change the default input unit for all parameters. For the moment, this can only be done for the active model by using the context menu for the parameter in the Data panel

New units can be introduced by clicking on the plus button. A factor and/or offset define the relation between the reference unit and the new user-defined unit.

The conversion example shown on the bottom of the New Unit dialog helps to check the input factor and offset when defining a new unit.
