Area-weighted Projection method

Area-weighted projection is a map-data projection method developed to support recharge data import from MIKE SHE, DFS2 files.

For a map containing polygonal data (e.g. a DFS2 grid composed of rectangles), the area-weighted projection computes the map's cells data contribution to the mesh elements in a conservative manner.

For a FEFLOW mesh element E and the set of map polygons , the area-weighted projection for a data field Ф (typically recharge data) is computed as following:

Explanation of area-weighted projection method.

Note that the quantity Ф must be an intensive quantity "per unit-area" rather than an extensive quantity.

For example, for recharge data, it must be expressed in mm/d and not in m^3/d.
