Vorticity Stream Function

Unit: [L²/T]

A stream function integrator is used to compute stream function patterns in 2D (horizontal, vertical, or axisymmetric) models.

The correct application of the stream function calculation is limited by the following conditions:

  • Steady-state flow is assumed (no storage term), but the methods is applicable also for variable-density flow for the steady flow/transient transport time class.

  • Not suitable for models with internal boundary conditions such as wells, rivers, etc.

In more general cases Streamlines should be used instead of the direct calculation of the stream function.
