Password Protection

FEFLOW model files (*.fem) and results files (*.dac, *.dar) can be protected by a password, limiting access to the model and results data on one of different protection stages.

Editor Password

An editor password can be applied to restrict model editing and other operations to FEFLOW users knowing the password. Without the password, the model properties cannot be edited.

If the editor password is disabled and the file saved, the file can only be used for viewing purposes. There is no way to make such a file editable again. Thus this is the safest available option to transfer models and results to third parties without risking that they might extract data from the model or use the model for other than viewing purposes.

If Disable editor password is checked and the file is saved, the file will be strictly read-only. There is no way at all - not even for the FEFLOW development team - to convert this such a file back into an editable status. Make sure to keep an editable backup of the original file if using this option.

Read-Only Mode Settings

If a viewer password is enabled, the model or results file can only be viewed (but not edited) and the simulation can be executed after entering this password. If no viewer password is applied, viewing and simulation run are possible without a password according to the set viewer options.

Read-Only Mode Options

A number of options is available to define the access level in read-only mode. By default, the strictest conditions are set, all optional possibilities being disabled:

  • Read-only mode may store a (protected) DAR- or DAC-file during simulation
  • Read-only mode may export data as maps
  • Read-only mode may add plug-ins
  • Read-only mode may open current problem using external applications (using interfaces etc.)
  • Supermesh is available in read-only mode

Unprotect

This button can be used to unprotect the current file. The editor password needs to be provided for this step. If the editor password has been disabled, the file cannot be unprotected.
